The Product Range

Dubarry’s third sheet of adverts had eleven new designs, again advertising Crème Shalimar and Talcum Powder, with the addition of a range of their other products such as Face Powder, Shaving Soap and Bath Crystals.

These were included in King Edward VIII booklets:
Series 3: BC3 321, 322, 323, 324
Series 4: BC2 359, 360, 361, 365, 372

and in King George VI booklets, but these are rare:
Series 3: BD22 367, 368

A second type of Advert 6 (Pair of hands) was also included on these sheets, similar to the Advert 6 from Group 2 but with differences on the front and back.

Group 3, because of the attempt at a full size plate, has 40 Settings. Those with odd numbered codes (in the left column below) are more common. Those with even numbered codes (in the right column below) are more scarce and are found in BC2 Edition 372 only.

There are a few Group 3 adverts that have States, adverts known to be from the same location on the plate, so are the same Setting, but which show small differences, possibly from wear, damage, or repair. Adverts 9.2, 14, and 16 have States.

No. 6 – Pair of hands (Type II)

Type II (back): DUBARRY’S CRÈME SHALIMAR in one line.
This example is Setting 6.2.1

This advert, which was previously listed as Advert 6 Setting 4, is not part of Group 2. It can be seen from the figure on page 173 of British Stamp Booklets that advert 6 occupies the four positions in the middle row of the sheet, but the image of the reverse shows that all four are two line settings. Advert 6 is presented here as two distinct types, each type with multiple settings. The first type belongs to Group 2, and the second type belongs to Group 3.

The primary difference between the two types is the setting of the back, but there are also differences on the front. Most distinctive is the distance between the bottom of the thumb and the edge of the coloured area. In Type I the thumb nearly touches the edge, in Type II there is a noticeable gap.

Also note the white border right of the stitch holes on the back.
Only Advert 6 Type II and Advert 17 exhibit this border.
